The short version

Zenbu Japanese does not collect or track data from the app. It has no advertising, analytics, third-party crash-reporting SDK, account, or cloud sync. Search history, notes, and selected images are processed on your device and are not sent to SERP.

Information on your device

• Recent searches: Zenbu stores up to 50 recent search queries in the app's private storage.
• Word notes: Notes you deliberately save are stored in the app's private storage.
• Encounter Media: A photo or image you choose is copied into the current Image Text session. If you open a recognized word, Zenbu retains that source image in the app's private storage and associates it with the word. You can keep multiple images with one word, and one retained image can be associated with several words. Identical image bytes are stored once. Images for words you do not open are removed with the session. You can also add an image directly from Word Detail through Apple's photo picker.
• Recognized and translated text: Results remain in the current app session unless you deliberately copy or share them.

Apple system features

Zenbu uses Apple's Vision framework for Japanese text recognition, Translation framework with installed Japanese-to-English language assets, and Speech Synthesis for pronunciation. Zenbu does not operate a server for these features and does not receive their content. Data handled by Apple is governed by Apple's terms and privacy practices.

Permissions and choices

Zenbu requests Camera access only after you choose Take Photo. You can deny or later disable that permission in iPhone Settings. Photos and Files use Apple's system pickers, which let you choose the specific image Zenbu can read rather than giving the app unrestricted library or file access.

Zenbu writes recognized text to the system clipboard only when you tap Copy Text. Sharing uses the system share sheet and sends content only to the destination you choose.

Retention and deletion

You can delete individual recent searches or clear all recent searches inside the app. You can delete saved word notes from the relevant word screen. Remove from Word deletes only the selected image association. Deleting an image from Media Library removes the retained image and all of its word associations. Closing Image Text discards the rest of its session. Uninstalling Zenbu Japanese removes the app's remaining local data.

Links, this website, and support

Zenbu opens support, privacy, source, and license links only when you choose them. Your browser and the destination website then handle the request under their own policies.

This website has no advertising, analytics, cookies, or contact form. Its hosting and network providers may process routine request information, such as an IP address and browser headers, as necessary to deliver and secure the pages.

If you email support@serp.co, SERP receives the address, message, and attachments you choose to send. We use support correspondence to respond, troubleshoot, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations, and retain it only as reasonably necessary for those purposes.

Children

Zenbu Japanese is a general-audience reference app and is not directed to children under 13.
